{"id":17207,"date":"2025-11-10T20:49:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T04:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldcampaign.net\/?p=17207"},"modified":"2025-11-10T20:51:56","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T04:51:56","slug":"ghislaine-maxwell-eyeing-commutation-whistleblower-tells-house-democrats-the-guardian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldcampaign.net\/?p=17207","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Ghislaine Maxwell eyeing commutation, whistleblower tells House Democrats&#8221;, The Guardian"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Epstein associate is also receiving special treatment in prison, Democrats say, according to whistleblower<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/profile\/anna-betts\">Anna Betts<\/a>, London, Mon 10 Nov 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/jeffrey-epstein\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>\u2019s longtime associate and co-conspirator who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2021\/dec\/29\/ghislaine-maxwell-sex-trafficking-trial-verdict\">sex-trafficking crimes<\/a>, is reportedly preparing a \u201ccommutation application\u201d for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/trump-administration\">Trump administration<\/a>&nbsp;to review, according to new allegations from a whistleblower shared with House Democrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrats on the House judiciary committee&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/whistleblower-shares-evidence-that-federal-prison-camp-warden-is-pampering-ghislaine-maxwell-maxwell-also-filing-a-commutation-application-with-trump-administration\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday that they had received information from a whistleblower that indicates that the British former socialite, 63, is working on filing a commutation application. They also said Maxwell had been receiving special treatment at federal prison camp Bryan in Texas&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;the minimum-security facility she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/aug\/01\/ghislaine-maxwell-prison-transfer\">transferred<\/a>&nbsp;to earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/whistleblower-shares-evidence-that-federal-prison-camp-warden-is-pampering-ghislaine-maxwell-maxwell-also-filing-a-commutation-application-with-trump-administration\">Congressman Jamie Raskin<\/a>, the ranking member and top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, stated in a news release that the prison\u2019s warden was also \u201chelping\u201d Maxwell \u201ccopy, print, and send documents\u201d to support her bid for clemency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exact content of this \u201ccommutation application\u201d was unclear, Raskin added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raskin states that according to the whistleblower, Maxwell has been receiving \u201ccustomized\u201d meals that are \u201cpersonally delivered\u201d to her cell, and that the warden has \u201cpersonally arranged\u201d private meetings for Maxwell and her visitors. The visits allegedly include providing a \u201cspecial cordoned-off area\u201d for visitors to arrive, as well as \u201can assortment of snacks and refreshments for her guests\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"7b5111e1-888f-4a8c-a67a-0301308accd3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/nov\/09\/ghislaine-maxwell-trump-admin-prison-transfer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.guim.co.uk\/img\/media\/05a374b0faf9fbc85a4ee28c28cd4f577198adb2\/326_0_2393_1916\/master\/2393.jpg?width=460&amp;quality=85&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=max&amp;s=0537c0a0367e11703acbfd9e209ab978\" alt=\"woman in white shirt and man in tuxedo smile together\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Maxwell\u2019s visitors were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which, Raskin described in the news release as an \u201cunprecedented action by the Warden given the security risk and potential for Ms Maxwell to use a computer to conduct unmonitored communications with the outside world\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one alleged instance, the whistleblower said that when phone lines went down for other inmates, Maxwell was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to call and how those personnel would then connect to relay the call to Maxwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whistleblower further reportedly told the House&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/democrats\">Democrats<\/a>&nbsp;that when Maxwell wanted to review and edit documents \u201cquickly\u201d, she \u201cessentially used\u201d the warden as her \u201cpersonal secretary and administrative assistant\u201d. The news release states that Maxwell\u2019s correspondents would email documents directly to the warden, who would provide them to Maxwell, \u201cwho would review and edit them and provide them back to the Warden to scan and provide to the original sender\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other privileges allegedly granted to Maxwell also include time to \u201cplay with\u201d a service dog \u2013 a perk that the news release states is not \u201cordinarily allowed\u201d \u2013 &nbsp; as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maxwell\u2019s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Guardian regarding the whistleblower\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement to the Guardian, Abigail Jackson, a spokesperson for the White House, said that \u201cthe White House does not comment on potential clemency requests\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs President Trump has stated, pardoning&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>&nbsp;is not something he has thought about,\u201d Jackson added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the weekend,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/nov\/09\/ghislaine-maxwell-trump-admin-prison-transfer\">reports surfaced<\/a>&nbsp;that Maxwell told friends and family in emails from prison that she was \u201cmuch happier\u201d at the Texas facility than her previous prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, Maxwell was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/aug\/01\/ghislaine-maxwell-prison-transfer\">moved<\/a>&nbsp;from a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida, to the minimum-security camp in Texas, where most of the inmates are serving time for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell-prison-transfer-epstein-b5efd6ac?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqdGGZZOrnhwensxlciIgHR5fra5r3EXXeYYUaoz_C4aV3pWIT2cYUyZ8acaz34%3D&amp;gaa_ts=6910d201&amp;gaa_sig=CeqINhgd6cTDRXL32vUXuhhexYn1VcU2umGshHpqbakJhXl-1X62n3044jr0Ycc3-fbZaSZG4AAkEEEM6QwLIQ%3D%3D\">non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes<\/a>. The transfer, which experts described as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/08\/01\/us\/video\/the-lead-holli-coulman-epstein-files-maxwell-prison-transfer-tapper\">unprecedented<\/a>\u201d, occurred just days after she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/25\/ghislaine-maxwell-justice-department-meeting\">interviewed<\/a>&nbsp;about the Epstein case by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;who also previously served as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s personal lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That interview came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid intense speculation around the president\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/18\/trump-epstein-friendship\">own personal ties<\/a>&nbsp;to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2019\/aug\/10\/jeffrey-epstein-dead-prison-report-latest\">dead in a New York jail<\/a>&nbsp;in 2019 while awaiting prosecution on sex-trafficking charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the news release on Monday, Raskin also announced that he had sent a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2025-11-09-raskin-to-trump-wh-re-maxwell.pdf\">letter<\/a>&nbsp;to Trump demanding answers about the whistleblower\u2019s allegations, and also called on the president to reject Maxwell\u2019s commutation request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou should not grant any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant sex offender,\u201d Raskin wrote in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/democrats-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2025-11-09-raskin-to-trump-wh-re-maxwell.pdf\">letter<\/a>. \u201cYour Administration should not be providing her with room service, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials waiting on her every need, or with any special treatment or institutional privilege at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raskin requested that Blanche appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also posed three questions to Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raskin asked whether Trump had discussed a potential commutation, or any form of presidential clemency, for Maxwell with Blanche or others;
